Spencer, IA: (Mar. 10) - A University of Missouri think-tank says U.S. farmers will grow more than 13.13 billion bushels of corn and more than 3.21 billion bushels of soybeans this year.
Each would be the second-largest harvest on record.
The Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute, or FAPRI, said 4.63 billion bushels of this year’s corn will be used to make grain-based ethanol, up from the USDA’s latest estimate of 4.5 bbu.
FAPRI ends up with a corn crop a bit smaller than USDA last estimated, largely because its yield estimate of 159.5 is 1.4 bpa less than USDA.
FAPRI is the last major forecast ahead of the USDA’s Prospective Plantings report on March 31st.
