Area Accidents & Arrests

Sheldon, IA (KICD)--The Iowa State Patrol says three were injured in an O'Brien County accident that took place last Friday on Highway 60.

21-year-old Aaron Schmidt of Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin was heading south on 60 when his 1993 Plymouth Voyager dropped off the shoulder of the inside lane. He headed into the outside land and upon trying to correct the situation Schmidt over corrected again which caused the van to go sideways into the median before rolling over onto the roof.

Schmidt and passengers 22-year-old Sharon and 1-year-old Marley Schmidt were all taken to the Sheldon Hospital by their ambulance crew. Aaron suffered incapacitating injures, Sharon non-incapacitating, and Marley had possible injuries. He was cited for failure to maintain control and violation of financial liability accident.

The van had a $3,500 damage estimate.

The mishap took place at 3:50 Friday afternoon.

Laurens, IA (KICD)--A Laurens man is facing drug charges filed by Pocahontas County authorities.

Sheriff Bob Lampe says 32 year old Earl A. Stone was arrested early Monday morning.

Storm Lake police started the investigation when Stone allegedly bought more than the legal limit of pseudoephedrine. Detectives went to Pocahontas county and got a search for his home in Laurens.

Authorities say they found components of a meth lab in an upstairs bedroom that was next to those used by his four children. Lab technicians from Storm Lake Police and Fire departments collected and neutralized the chemicals. Laurens police, fire and ambulance crews helped with the search.

Stone's been charged with manufacturing methamphetamine -- a class B felony. He's also facing a count of possession of meth and meth precursors and four counts of child endangerment. Those are all class D felonies.

Storm Lake police have charged him with violating pseudoephedrine restriction and possession of meth precursors.

Stone is being held in the Pocahontas county jail on a 55 thousand dollars bond.
