Grimes Inducted Into Pork Hall Of Fame

Spencer, IA: (Mar. 08) - University of Missouri Ag Economist Glenn Grimes and former Iowa state senator John Soorholtz were inducted into the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) Hall of Fame at last weekend’s Pork Industry Forum in Kansas City.

Professor Grimes was honored for pioneering pork industry economic outlooks and the pork demand index. For more than two decades, Grimes has been a consultant to the NPPC.

Soorholtz was part of the so-called Moline 90 group, which provided resources to hire the first full-time executive secretary for NPPC. He also was behind the “Nickels for Profit” program, a forerunner of the pork checkoff. He served as president of the Iowa Pork Producers Association in the 1970’s.

NPPC President Sam Carney referred to Grimes and Soorholtz as “giants of the U.S. pork industry.”
