Spencer, IA: (Feb. 08) - The U.S. House passed late last week passed, by a vote of 233 to 187, the Senate-passed pay-as-you-go budget rules, similar to the rules that helped wipe out massive deficits during the Clinton administration.
The rules permit lawmakers to protect taxpayers from the expansion of the alternative minimum tax rule for two years and protect doctors who serve Medicare patients from a scheduled pay cut through 2014. The bill, however, would permit Congress to add 1.5 trillion to the nation’s debt over the next decade.
Iowa’s Congressional delegation split along party lines, with Democrats voting for the bill. Republicans King and Latham voted against. The President is expected to sign the document.
