Syngenta Blames Slow Sales On Tough U.S. Winter

Spencer, IA: (Apr. 16, 2014) – It’s been a tough winter all over the United States. West Coast farmers are short of rain and farmers throughout the Midwest are staring at frigid fields. And that has dented Syngenta’s first-quarter sales of pesticides and seeds in North America by about 8 percent, according to that company’s CEO.

Michael Mack, on a conference call with reporters, said dry conditions in the West slowed sales of crop sprays. And, he said the late-start to the planting season has slowed seed sales in North America. He said better conditions in Europe, Africa and the Middle East offset weaker results in North America.
