Storm Lake Apartment Fire

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)–No injuries were reported in connection to a mattress fire at a Storm Lake apartment this (Wednesday) morning.
The Storm Lake Fire Department responded to 117 East Railroad Street around 4:45 a.m.  Upon arrival of fire fighters they entered a second floor apartment through thick black smoke and extinguished a fire burning in a mattress on the floor of a bedroom located near the rear of the apartment.

All of the occupants of the apartment and a second apartment in the building escaped without injury.

It is believed that the origin of the fire is carelessly discarded smoking materials.

Fire and heat damage was contained to the bedroom with heavy smoke damage throughout the apartment. Damage is estimated at $8,000.

The fire department was on scene for approximately one hour and was assisted at the scene by Storm Lake Police
