Ruthven, IA (KICD)– A Ruthven couple received a jolt, literally, while watching the 4th of July fireworks from inside their house at Lost Island Lake.

92-year-old Don Spencer tells KICD News he has never experienced anything like the lightning strike that hit a tree just 40 feet from their home.

The lightning strike stripped the bark at the top and bottom of the tree and blew bits and pieces of the tree everywhere.

No injuries were reported in connection with the lightning strike.
