Storm Lake, IA (KICD)–Numerous assaults occurred in Storm Lake on Wednesday evening.
Police responded to an apartment complex in reference to an unknown 911 call where people were screaming on the telephone. 21-year-old Shaquirial Jordan of Chicago allegedly assaulted her grandmother, 54-year-old Delores Rankins of Storm Lake.
Police allege that Rankins became upset at officers for detaining a second person outside of the apartment and she attacked and assaulted a police officer. As officers attempted to take Rankins into custody her nephew, 32-year-old Daniel Rankins of Alta, allegedly interfered and fought with officers. Officers took Daniel Rankins to the ground at which time Delores Rankins reportedly kicked an officer in the head. Both Rankins were subdued by officers and taken into custody.
Following an investigation Delores Rankins was charged with Assault on a Peace Officer Causing Bodily Injury, Assault on a Peace Officer and Interference With Official Acts
Daniel Rankins was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Interference With Official Acts.
Jordan was charged with Assault, Disorderly Conduct, Public Intoxication and Criminal Mischief 5th Degree.
Two officers were assaulted in the incident and one sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention.
Le Mars, IA (KICD)–Two from the listening area were injured in a fiery Plymouth County rollover Wednesday morning.
Jessica Valle-Zamudio did not stop for a stop sign and the roadway turned to gravel. She then lost control of her car, entered the ditch and struck a culvert embankment which caused the car to flip end over end and land in a corn field. Valle-Zamudio and a passenger, 18-year-old Lawrence Olais-Moreno of Orange City, were able to escape the car before it caught on fire.
Both individuals were taken to nearby hospitals with non-incapacitating injuries. Valle-Zamudio was cited for failure to maintain control.
