Spencer, IA: (Mar. 13, 2013) – One of the country’s largest grocery companies is putting pressure on pork suppliers to stop using gestation crates.

Minnesota-based Supervalu says it will require reports from its suppliers on their progress in producing pork without the use of the individual gestation stalls.

The Eden Prairie-based grocery chain wants pork suppliers to provide plans to stop using the gestation crates by 2017.

Supervalu has 3400 stores, which include Cub Foods, Save-A-Lot, Farm Fresh and Shop’n Save.
