Dickinson County Deputy Accident

Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)–A Minnesota woman was injured following an accident with a Dickinson County Deputy.

The Sheriff’s Office says Deputy Josh Roberts was westbound on Highway 9 & 71, east of Spirit Lake, just after 2:00 this (Friday) morning. 55-year-old Laverne Schweertmann of Breckenridge was driving a 1977 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound in the westbound lane. Roberts swerved to miss the motorcycle but was unable to get out of its path. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the patrol car.

Schweertmann was taken to Lakes Regional Healthcare with incapacitating injuries and then transferred to Avera Mackennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
