Clay County Freedom Rock Meeting

Spencer, IA (KICD)–An informational meting on the topic of Clay County’s Freedom Rock will be held tonight in Spencer.

Susan Sembach tells KICD News that Everly has been picked to be home to the veterans memorial.

The original Freedom Rock was inspired by the movie “Saving Private Ryan” and is an over 60 ton boulder, painted by artist Bubba Sorensen II, and is located in Greenfield. Sorenson is now in the process of painting smaller rocks that are unique to each of Iowa’s 99 counties.

Tonight’s meeting will focus on what exactly should go on the Clay County Freedom Rock, getting volunteers, and continued fundraising efforts.

If the weather holds out Clay County is currently the last to have their rock painted this year with a completion sometime in October. In the case of inclement weather Clay County would likely be the first rock on the list in 2015.

Tonight’s Clay County Freedom Rock informational meeting will take place from 6:30-8:00 at the Clay County Regional Events Center.
